第九章

Sainath Bina Parmatma Nahi

例如:Sukh(舒适)、Shanti(平和)、Anand(福乐)、Uddhar(圆满)、Nirvana(涅槃)。

Hari Bhajan Bina...Spiritual Tips to climb the mountain of life

Chapter 9

Sainath Bina Parmatma Nahi

When translated directly means by reciting the name of our lord Sai, the gateway to the entire supreme consciousness (Parmatma) will directly be available to us. The concluding line is extremely beautiful for contemplation. The embodied divine consciousness could be Krishna, Ram, Muruga, Christ or even Sai himself. These are the manifested divinity. It all exists because of the unmanifested divinity (Paramatma)……Without HIM -Nothing Is!!!!

Though at one glance the line appears simple, its very simplicity reveals its depth of TRUTH. We will understand it better if we take some everyday examples. A scientist who wins let us say, a Nobel prize while holding the award and gazing through his window panes of his laboratory will remember his years of struggle and endless nights working into the wee hours of the morning in the icy cold laboratories where he was trying to unravel a certain puzzle which has been a challenge to all the scientist throughout the world. His world for the past many years would have been nothing else except endless formulae, test tubes, chemicals, complex experimental procedures and sophisticated techniques. This world of science for him would have remained unmanifested if not for his mentor who first introduced him to the laboratory, just after his Bachelors graduation and encouraged him to pursue science as a profession. Somehow the wisdom in this elderly scientist recognised the hidden potential the young man had. It was the constant chats, discussion and the encouragement given by his mentor that fuelled in him enough inspiration to reach the pinnacle of his career. A deep sense of gratitude will make him realise that the entire world of unmanifested science, which he would have never got to experience, is the result of the embodied knowledge in the manifested elderly mentor. In fact in his thanksgiving speech after receiving the Nobel Prize, the mention of the mentor will be inevitable, for without the teacher this award would not have been possible. Hence closeness of the mentor, the friend that he was and the direction that was given by the guide in his mentor, was all responsible for the award. In his heart he would possibly have received the award on behalf of his mentor.

Another example to illustrate the same point will be when the father takes his young son to his shop and exposes him to the various ways of his business. The young boy grows into an adult, but all the while learning from his father the tricks of the trade, the art of wheeling and dealing, the techniques on how to handle customers, the practical world of economy and business and the intricate methods how to rake in the profits. When the shop, over the years, turns into a multi-million dollar industry and while sitting on the chair of the industrial captain and looking at the portrait of his deceased father he cannot but feel the words of guidance and wisdom of his father permeating all over the entire industry. The entire manifested world of business would have never been experienced by him if not for the wisdom of his father. The portrait of his father therefore is the representation of the entire business he has now come to possess. Therefore in deep gratitude and with affection he will say the father is the cause of the present success. In fact his father is the industry and the industry that has unfolded is the result of his father.

These two examples are adequate enough to understand that without the personalised God form like Krishna or Rama or the teacher, in this case, Swami, the unmanifested world of God indicated by the word Paramatma can never be experienced. When that experience is gained he himself will declare just like the scientist and the business man earlier that the teacher is everything, that Rama is my everything, that Krishna is my everything and Christ is my everything but in truth he is declaring that the recognition of the formless Divine that these divine forms represent.

It is interesting to note that throughout the song the experience of personality integration was expressed. For example: Sukh, Shanti, Anand, Uddhar, Nirvana. All these are the expected results of walking the path. The experience of reaching the final destination surely will not have words to express or convey. Hence the song has in fact the implication of Divinity guiding the Jivi on a journey, providing us the techniques and teaching us how to live. It is in this final line that the Jivi is brought to merge with Paramatma or God and therefore the song stops here for teacher has left it to us to experience this final merge.

Swami has said,

‘Parmatma is present everywhere and is all knowing. He is present everywhere in His creation and by seeing Him everywhere, it will be possible for you to live in this world, getting correct knowledge of the nature around you, and by such Adhyatmic knowledge, you will be able to enjoy happiness in the spiritual side of the world. Parmatma is the embodiment of truth and wisdom and is infinite. In that form, He is present in all the organs that make up your body. He is effulgent in the body in the form of Atma.’

When God disguises himself he becomes man but through the various techniques and spiritual practises the mask falls off and he realises he is God himself.

Swami has said,

‘The Universal Absolute (God) is that which remains after subtracting the body, the mind, and the vital airs the brain etc. When the veil hiding the individual is removed, the individual is revealed as the higher self or the universal absolute.’

When once we realise our true nature we will feel and generate Love.

Swami has said,

‘Paramatma revels in Glory as Prem in man: Prem appears in various forms; attaching itself to riches or parents or children or one’s life mate or friends. All these are sparks of the same flame and the Love of the Universal is its highest expression. This Prem cannot be cultivated by reading guide-books and learning the steps by note. It has begun with a great yearning for the Light, an unbearable agony to escape from the darkness, as in the prayer `Tamaso ma Jyotirgamaya’. The yearning itself will draw down the Light. The love will grow of itself and by its slow and inevitable alchemy turn you into Gold.’

God is the power in everything, Swami once said, and therefore has the power to give.

‘God is as a Divine wish-fulfilling tree that gives you whatever you ask for. But you have to go near the tree and wish for the thing you want. The atheist is a person who is far away from the tree; the believer in God is one who is near the tree-that is the difference. The tree does not make any distinction; it grants boons to all. God will not punish or take revenge if you do not recognise Him or revere Him. He has no special form of worship which can please Him.’

‘Once a devotee went to Jesus and asked him ‘Oh Lord! What is the power by which one can protect oneself ?’ Jesus replied ‘Son! When you love God, that power itself will protect you.’’

Once we understand this principle and mechanics of how God operates then the worldly transactions will be taken as a sport. Swami has said

‘Whatever happens, you should take it as a gift of God. Love is God. Live in Love. This is the proper way of worshipping God. All forms of worship and penance are only for the control of the mind. They will not give you the realisation of God. God is within you, around you, beside you. He is the only true friend. You develop friendship with worldly people, who may desert you when you are bereft of your wealth, power of status. God alone will be with you always.’
