Hari Bhajan Bina...
Prabhu Darsh Bina Pragyan Nahi
‘ 这意识也被描述为Sat-Chit-Anand(存有-觉知-福乐)。

Hari Bhajan Bina...Spiritual Tips to climb the mountain of life
by Professor Dr. Suresh Govind
Chapter 6
Prabhu Darsh Bina Pragyan Nahi
When translated directly means without a vision of the Lord (Prabhu Darshan) one can never gain the knowledge of Brahman or wisdom (Pragnyan). Mystical lines are extremely filled with suggestions and are left to interpretations depending on, the consciousness of the individual. Without the Darshan of the Lord, one can never get knowledge or wisdom. The Lord’s Darshan is for all to get but unless one takes effort and possess the right yearning for the highest experience the Lord may never grant His. Hence for such a reaction from the Lord, following Newton’s 3rd Law there must be an action. Electrical energy is rampant all over but unless we transfer the mechanical energy stored in the falling waters that move the turbine to electrical energy we will not be blessed with the boons offered by Lord Electricity. Even then we not will be able to receive such a vast and powerful energy directly for it will blow our fuses and cause fire. Even the sun outside cannot be directly seen for a long time as it may cause blindness. People generally see the eclipse of the sun from a reflection of the water. Similarly if the good Lord suddenly decides to grant us a vision of him, the effulgence and the splendour of His majestic rays will surely blind us. Even the thought of the Lords Love and compassion can sometimes bring us uncontrollable tears. Therefore we have to develop our faculties and take effort in integrating our personality so that we will be strong enough to absorb the vibrations of Love. The wild electrical energy has to be stepped down using transformers so that energy can be tamed and allow to flow through the wires into our homes to help us in our daily life. Effort is necessary to bring such a wild, raging energy to a tame, gentle and controllable level. This line in the song implies that unless the Lords Grace which is all pervading is tapped through our wires of Love and brought to our homes and selves to bless us in our daily transactions, it will not bestow us knowledge and wisdom.
Man’s evolution depends on how high or low his consciousness (Pragnyan) or divine wisdom is. The escalation of consciousness will depend on the level of awareness the individual has.
Swami has said,
‘The awareness of one being the witness of everything is the secret of self-realisation. Self-realisation is either the knowledge that `I am the truth of Me’ or `I have known Myself’ or `All are one Atma’ or I have experienced that the individual and the universal are not distinct.’
Therefore the level of awareness will then depend on the amount and most importantly the type of knowledge one has.
Swami has said,
‘You must light your own lamp. You cannot walk in the light of another’s lamp. You cannot exist on the money in the purse of another. Have your own money; then alone you are free. Earn the knowledge yourself. Even knowing it is not enough; you must experience it. The well has water; but that is not enough. It must be brought up in the bucket and used to wash and quench the thirst’.
Therefore, it is experienced knowledge that should be cultivated. With increasing levels of knowledge gathered, reflected and imbibed the consciousness of man slowly increases. Swami so beautifully explain the different levels of consciousness.
‘Swami’s grace manifests itself in the form of emergence of Vibhuti and oozing of Amrut from photographs, falling of flowers and snapping of garlands at the altar, wrinkles on the chair placed for Me and the appearance of My footprints in the shrine of My devotees. These phenomena are visible to the naked eye.’
Swami hints here to the section of the people only fascinated by the physical manifestations and miracles Swami performs. The consciousness of such people limits and confines Swami to these physical miracles. Swami remains an object of worship only occasionally remembered or called when in crisis or danger. But if the level of awareness is slightly increased then
Swami says,
‘There is a category of devotees who can feel Swami’s presence through strong vibrations and inflow of energy as and when they still their thoughts and concentrate on the Name and Form of the Lord, tears of bliss roll down the cheeks of such devotees when they set up communication with Swami.’
and if the consciousness of devotees were to escalate further, then Swami says,
‘Higher than this is another category of devotees who have vision of the Lord in the form of brilliant light. They can, at will, watch every movement of Swami and other Gods and Goddesses. They are always immersed in the thoughts of Swami and receive regular answers from Him to their questions. They develop the faculties of clairvoyance and clairaudience.’
There are some who get fascinated by these gifts and therefore stop their effort in furthering their spiritual practises. They forget that there are higher ladders to climb
Swami says,
‘A still higher level in the evolution of the soul is reached when the soul surrenders his will to the Will of God and makes the choice to let his whole life, everything he does, every thought, be of His Will, not his.’
‘The next higher state is reached when a devotee experiences the truth that all is God and there is only One God. It is a revelation that touches him deeply. To him is opened the door to the inflowing of the God-force so that it reaches the innermost part of his being. It is there within, it is there without, and when he surrenders, he allows the two to join in perfect unison. From that moment onwards, he lives in perfect harmony with God. Such a devotee soaked in the Love of God, lives and works only as the instrument of God for the welfare of humanity.’
Hence Swami through step by step indicates to us the levels of consciousness we must ascend to and just as one thinks that the highest has been reached
Swami says,
‘The highest level on the spiritual path is achieved when the devotee and God become One. His consciousness expands to the level of God consciousness or Super consciousness and for him all distinctions between Sai, God and himself disappear and he becomes THAT. Having annihilated his ego completely and achieved total desirelessness, he transcends body consciousness to achieve total equanimity and remain eternally immersed in God consciousness- Sat-Chit-Anand; I am Existence, I am knowledge, I am Bliss.’
Swami has also said,
‘This consciousness is also described as Sat-Chit-Anand (Being-Awareness-Bliss). Sat means Truth, Chit means Total Awareness and Anand means Bliss.’
Therefore the components of consciousness appears to be three (SAT-CHIT-ANAND) and one of the ways of increasing consciousness would be to increase any one of the three. Thus by increasing the level of awareness which is one of the three will inevitably lead to increasing our consciousness. Levels of awareness can be only increased through acquiring knowledge and therefore the song in this 6th line indicates that the final method of integrating and blossoming human personality to excellence is through Gyanyog.
The line here states that unless one has the yearning to at least have a Darshan of the Lord no wisdom can blossom in that individual. This almost echoes what Swami Vivekanand had previously said that those who are not born to the consciousness of the higher will be considered among those who are dead. The teacher, in this line of the song, states that the consciousness of man must be aspiring or yearning to at least have a glimpse of the Lord implies a deeper meaning which is extremely poetic and suggestive.
In a crowded festival gathering hundreds and hundreds of people push and pull through a small narrow lane to the main temple. It is during this time, a small child in his excitement runs away from his mother to a nearby toy shop. After some time the child’s fascination of the toy wanes away from its mind and now it starts looking around for his mother.
No matter what toys are thrust at him to divert the attention of the mind from his anxiety, or food given to quieten him the child’s cry continue to grow in its intensity. None can please him. No other person can console or comfort him. Another lady, perhaps a mother of even ten children may not be able to provide the securing love the child yearns or wants. The child may be hungry or even thirsty and passer-byes may offer drink or food but the child refuses to accept any. He wants only to see the smiling face of his Mother, to grasp her loving hands and to be cuddled into her loving bosom. That yearning of the child wanting only his Mother can be likened to the longing indicated in this line of the song. Another example would be that of a man’s head if pushed down to a pool of water for long periods then his only one longing or desire would be to have a breath of air.
For Sai devotees the yearning to see the physical form of Swami or long even just to catch a glimpse of his smiling benevolent face of the teacher can constitute the Darshan of the Lord though of course it would be quite misleading to equate `Prabhu Darshan’ in this line to the physical Darshan of Swami. Even to those who do, Swami says,
`Well you have the chance to see, experience and be sanctified by the incarnations of the Lord; this chance you have got as result of the accumulation of merit in previous lives. That merit has brought you here when I have come down. For this chance Rishis and Devas have prayed long in the past. Having won this chance, strive to taste the sweetness and achieve the bliss of merging, without wasting even a single moment.’
